Prevalence of Adult Honey Bee (Apis mellifera L.) Pests and Pathogens in the Five Beekeeping Regions of Mexico

چکیده

Mexico is a major honey producer, but not much information exists about the health status of bees (Apis mellifera L.) in country. This study was conducted to determine sanitary adult Mexico’s five beekeeping regions. Samples from 369 apiaries were diagnosed identify pathogens such as Varroa destructor, which quantified, Acarapis woodi, Nosema spp., and viruses. Colonies also inspected for presence small hive beetle (SHB), Aethina tumida. destructor found 83.5% apiaries, with Pacific Coast region having highest prevalence (>95%) rates (4.5% ± 0.6). woodi detected only one apiary Coast, whereas spp. prevalent 48.5% lowest frequencies Yucatan Peninsula North regions (64.6% 10.2%, respectively). For viruses, deformed wing virus (DWV) 26.1% frequency (44.7%). Israeli acute paralysis (IAPV) 3.2% samples sacbrood bee (SBV) 23.3% them, High Plateau (36.4%). Chronic Kashmir viruses detected. SHB 25.2% nationwide, (39.2%). shows that most common parasites are V. DWV, highly Peninsula. could be useful design disease control strategies colonies different Mexico.

Oxidative Enzyme Systems of the Honey Bee, Apis Mellifera L

1. Oxidative dissimilation has been studied in enzymes from the honey bee. Using mitochondria isolated from the thoraces, complete oxidation of most of the TCA cycle members has been shown. 2. The presence of the acetate-activating enzyme, citrate-condensing enzyme, isocitric dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate, and 6-phosphogluconic dehydrogenase has been demo...

Heterosis in the Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.).

HERE are three castes in the honey bee colony: the drone, queen, and worker. T The latter two are both females. The drone bee is a male, representing a haploid gamete of the queen bee heading his hive. The honey bee colony is composed of two generations of bees. The queen bee is, in effect, a potent egg-laying machine, while the workers are morphologically and functionally fitted for honey and ...

Xenobiotic Effects on Intestinal Stem Cell Proliferation in Adult Honey Bee (Apis mellifera L) Workers

The causes of the current global decline in honey bee health are unknown. One major group of hypotheses invokes the pesticides and other xenobiotics to which this important pollinator species is often exposed. Most studies have focused on mortality or behavioral deficiencies in exposed honey bees while neglecting other biological functions and target organs. The midgut epithelium of honey bees ...

Hygienic behavior in the honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) and the modulatory role of octopamine.

Honey bees, Apis mellifera, which perform hygienic behavior, quickly detect, uncap and remove diseased brood from the nest. This behavior, performed by bees 15-20 days old and prior to foraging, is likely mediated by olfactory cues. Because the neuromodulator octopamine (OA) plays a pivotal role in olfactory-based behaviors of honey bees, we examined whether bees bred for hygienic and nonhygien...

Cytosine modifications in the honey bee (Apis mellifera) worker genome

Epigenetic changes enable genomes to respond to changes in the environment, such as altered nutrition, activity, or social setting. Epigenetic modifications, thereby, provide a source of phenotypic plasticity in many species. The honey bee (Apis mellifera) uses nutritionally sensitive epigenetic control mechanisms in the development of the royal caste (queens) and the workers. The workers are f...
